Skills for Singing
Semester Offered: Fall 2022 (September 15 - December 1); Spring 2022 Dates TBD
Time/Location: Thursdays from 7pm-9pm in Music Building Classroom 6 (3 Oxford Street)
Instructor: Elizabeth Eschen (eschen@fas.harvard.edu)
Skills for Singing is a co-curricular, non-credit, no-fee course offering weekly voice training in a group setting, with a particular focus on understanding how the voice functions and regularly applying that knowledge through class repertoire. Each class will also devote time to reading and sight-singing Western musical notation. All experience levels are welcome, as each student will grow from where they are and discover more about their unique voice, personal musicianship, and artistic style. Participation in the course is encouraged for those new to singing, those looking to audition for the Harvard Choruses, operas, musicals, or a cappella groups, or any new members of the Harvard ensembles looking to further their vocal abilities.
Space is limited to 20 singers, and usually there is a long waitlist. Priority is given to Harvard College undergraduates but Harvard graduate students and Harvard faculty/staff/affiliates are welcome for consideration and greatly contribute to the class experience. All singers will follow current Harvard University protocols concerning COVID-19.
Interested students should fill out the Skills for Singing Interest Form by 11:59pm on Friday, September 9th. Email invitations will go out that weekend, with the first class to start Thursday, September 15th.
Note: You must be a Harvard student, faculty, staff, or affiliate to enroll in the course.
